Beauprez: renounce "habitat hypocrisy" on drilling in roadless areas

Congressman Bob Beauprez supported additional drilling in Colorado forests without waiting for Governor Owens' approval or the recommendations of a statewide roadless-rule taskforce which are due September 13, 2006.

In 2004, Beauprez ranked 10th among House members for funding from the oil and gas industry. He also voted for Bush’s 2005 energy bill, which last year extended billions in tax breaks to oil companies at a time of record profits.

In 2005 Beauprez received a “0” the worst possible score from both the American Wilderness Coalition and the League of Conservation Voters. In 2005, the Republicans for Environmental Protection scored Beauprez a “-4” tied with Marilyn Musgrave as the bottom, and worse than the record of support from the environment of Senator Allard (12) and Representatives Hefley (8) and Tancredo (8).

We call on Congressman Beauprez to renounce his appalling record on the environment as the first step in his "Colorado Habitat Initiative."
