Has anyone noticed that the military targets poor and Hispanic youth for recruitment in our state? Let it be known that these are youth with fewer life choices than most. They have lower levels of education, income, health and political power. It is disturbing to me that the "enlistment bonus" is now $20,000.00. This is attractive to poor people. What is really troubling is that advertising is targeting the families, asking them to get involved in making the decision to enlist. I must ask, Why? I must reply: So that if a child is killed in the Middle East the parents cannot blame the government. Nevertheless, if find this to be entrapment youth. How low can you go?

I travel across the Colorado/New Mexico state line frequently.  I notice the difference between the quality of higway and road construction in both states.  Simply, New Mexico has the best highways and roads, excluding dirt roads.  Where is the money alloted to this construction in Colorado?  Yes, yes, I know about the weather and what it does to the roads, but that is no excuse.  New Mexico has similar weather.  Tourist rely on the freways.  They bring in big dollars, lets treat ourselves, our vehicals and our guests with some dignity.  Fix the roads.
I've just taken another tour of the Cesar Chavez and the Dolores Huetra Prepretory School in Pueblo, Colo. Not only do these two schools have extraordinary high ratings for student achievement, they have outstanding facilities. Did anyone see the recent profile of the schools or read about President Bush's interview with one of the founders of these two alternatives to District 60's educational model? What a dream come true: from the basement meeting of three people to an outstanding dual facility in ten years. Love of children, love and respect for education and the future. These schools are models deserving your on-site preview; never mide what its critics say or write, simply visit and decide for yourself.
