Chaos Confirmed
I remember politics in the 60s. I remember huge protests of (mostly, it seemed) young people. I remember informed citizens, with entire families sitting around radios and then TVs learning what was going on in the world. I DON'T remember precisely how we ever got to mis-informed and apathetic. I have a hard time fixing blame for such a drastic change. Did we over-celebrate the changes we had made? Did we decide, in "growing up," that other people's problems are simply none of our business? Were we so busy with our own problems that we didn't have, or take, the time to look around at other people's lives and problems? When and why did we decide that it was all right for information media to only furnish government- or corporate-approved information? When and why did we decide that what people do in the privacy of their own homes (and bedrooms!) is more important than foreign policy and economic policy? When and why did we decide that weapons building was more important than people? When and why did we decide our government and its carrying ons is none of our business? Can somebody please help me understand all this?
