Southern Rockies Carnivore Conservation
Working to restore and protect native carnivores and their wild habitat in the Southern Rockies and connected high plains and deserts.
We had a little fun with 'Foxy' the fox today... NO, not That Kind of Fun!
We heard that Frontier was doing a Campaign Interview style promo for the 'Foxy' Frontier's Favorite Animal at the Civic Center today across from the City Hall. So we thought this would be great test of our Concept of Instant Vigils.
We flew downtown and did a 'one indian' to their 'circle the wagons' maneuver. The media types applauded my arrival but grumbled later when they had trouble getting a shot without our signs in the background.
Our sign on one side said.
Call Foxy and tell her to
Stop the Iraq War
and impeach Bush
and on the other side
Call Foxy and say
Stop the War and
impeach Bush.
Amazing the amount of eyeballs these signs got.
It was Fun...
you all shoulda been there.
Maybe next time, eh! Join Us.
Impeachment can be fun.

The attack by a mountain lion on a child in Boulder this weekend underscores the need for human vigilance in order to co-exist with wildlife.
"Mountain lion attacks rarely occur, and they are generally avoidable if we exercise caution and act responsibly in their habitat," said Wendy Keefover-Ring, Director, Carnivore Protection Program of Sinapu. Read More »

Well, maybe Ben Nighthorse-Campbell wouldn't have been so bad after all. Be careful what you wish for, that's what my grandpa always said--though I suspect Gramps would've liked Dirk Kempthorne. I don't. Read More »
Let me get this straight: Senator Wayne Allard (R)-CO wants the Bush Administration to nominate former Senator Ben Nighthorse-Campbell to be the Secretary of the Interior? Katy bar the door! Read More »
Aaah, spring is in the air and federal Wildlife Services agents are scurrying. It's the best time of the year for federal officials to shoot native wildlife from aircraft, a practice known as "aerial gunning." It occurs on a mix of private and public lands--including Colorado's national forests, canyonlands, and prairies.

The fillibuster held today. Senator Stevens is going to pop a vein.
Everyone with half a brain understands that the atmosphere is warming and our oceans are warming. And everyone with half a brain understands the role of greenhouse gas emissions in that process and the consequential need to reduce emissions.
But not the Bush Administration. Nope. Practically the entire world is working on a plan to reduce emissions, but one of the world's leading polluters won't even talk about it. This Administration proves on so many fronts, over and over, that they are embarrassingly, dangerously incompetent and/or corrupt.

Yesterday, the Colorado Division of Wildlife (DOW) revealed that someone likely poached a lynx and put its radio tracking collar in a post office mail box in Silverton. A second lynx collar was found today near Missionary Ridge, thus marring an otherwise successful lynx reintroduction program. Read More »
Congressman Salazar Backtracks on Commitment to Colorado's Environment
The U.S. House of Representatives today passed Representative Richard Pombo's bill to gut the Endangered Species Act by a narrow 36-vote margin, a much closer vote than expected. The bill would severely weaken protections for our nation's endangered wildlife and plants and their habitat. The final vote was 229-193 with 34 Republicans voting against the bill.
Let there be no mistake, this bill rips the heart out of the Endangered Species Act. It removes the safety net on which the ever-growing list of endangered wildlife depends. Read More »
Save the Endangered Species Act
Citizen Action Needed This Week
In the wake of (or perhaps under the cover of) Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, Congressman Richard Pombo (R) - CA is railroading a bill through the House that would, if enacted, essentially gut the only law that protects endangered plants and animals from going extinct in America.
Though bedecked with a nice, cuddly name, the Threatened and Endangered Species Recovery Act is anything but. The bill reads like a developer's dream, and the only thing that will keep it from becoming the death knell for thousands of imperiled species is action from people like you (and five of your friends, and five of theirs, and so on).
