Colorado Citizens for Peace
A group originally formed as a peace vigil opposing the Wars. 52nd/Wadsworth - we demonstrate every Saturday from 12:00pm to 1:00pm and are open to anyone. We ask that you practice non-violence and non-confrontational behavior (except for signage). As our presence grew stronger our extended peace vigil family moved to different parts of the city --- 1st and University in Denver -- (Cherry Creek Peace Vigil) -- and W. Colfax Avenue and Denver West for the Women In Black. In December, two other groups began to form -- North Metro Peace Vigil located at W. 92nd Avenue and Sheridan -- and a Time for Peace at 50th and Lowell.

Impeachment Begins! Preliminary Hearing Friday July 25th

By David Swanson www.afterdowningstreet.org

At 10 a.m. on Friday July 25th, the House Judiciary Committee will hold a preliminary hearing in Rayburn Building Room 2141 on the topic of impeachment, with a presentation by Congressman Dennis Kucinich. This is not yet a true impeachment hearing, but it is our opportunity to push for one, and it represents a tremendous victory after years of effort by millions of Americans who want to keep the Constitution alive. This never would have happened without your hard work. And we can't let up now! The National Impeachment Network is organizing a rally and asking everyone who can to take a day off for justice and meet at 9 a.m. on Friday July 25th in front of the Rayburn House Office Building on the Independence Avenue side. Bring impeachment shirts and posters! For more information contact ningroup@gmail.com.

David Swanson reports that Veterans for Peace had a meeting on impeachment already scheduled with Conyers for the 25th. He notes that they'll be in town and could perhaps take a lead in organizing people.

He also suggests contacting CodePink for organizing assistance.

From David Swanson:

The peace movement has stood for peace and justice, for ending wars, preventing new ones, and building peace. Our top priority in Washington, D.C., has been ending the funding of the occupation. That work is over for the next year, because Congress has provided that funding.

We can still work against recruitment, we can still educate, we can still agitate, we can still oppose an attack on Iran. But one of our secondary priorities in Washington has been imposing a penalty for the illegal attack on Iraq in order to discourage future attacks on Iran or anywhere else.

We have pushed half-heartedly for impeachment,
with our main lobbying focus on cutting off the money.

Now, at the same time that the money is
a done deal for another year,

the possibility of impeachment is beginning to spark. After over two years of declaring impeachment "off the table," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has relented and suggested that some sort of preliminary hearing be held in the Judiciary Committee - and specifically on the impeachable offense of misleading a nation into war.

If the peace movement is not just a movement against one war or occupation, but a movement for peace, we should push with everything we've got for that (impeachment) hearing to happen, happen soon, and happen well.

We should ask everyone who cares about peace to phone Pelosi and Committee Chairman John Conyers, as well as their own representatives, whom they should ask to introduce their own articles of impeachment.

We've been on a losing streak, brothers and sisters, and the door is cracking open toward a major victory. Let's open that door fully and lead a peaceful march of millions through it.

Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich said he will introduce a single article of impeachment against President George W. Bush Thursday for “taking our nation and our troops to war based on lies.”

Last month, Kucinich introduced 35 articles of impeachment against President Bush in the form of a privileged resolution.

Kucinich, a former 2008 Democratic presidential candidate, spent four-hours reading the impeachment articles into the Congressional Record last month. He accused the commander-in-chief of a wide range of high crimes and misdemeanors, such as lying to Congress and the public to win support for the Iraq war.

The impeachment articles introduced by Kucinich last month took place a few days after the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence released a long-awaited report on prewar Iraq intelligence that concluded President Bush and Vice President Cheney knowingly lied to the public and to Congress about Iraq's links to al-Qaeda and the threat the country posed to the U.S. in the aftermath of 9/11.

“These articles of impeachment are about accountability,” Kucinich said. “I think our country is at risk. We’re setting a terrible precedent for future administrations if we choose to turn a blind eye to the crimes committed by this administration."

The House of Representatives referred the Bush articles of impeachment to the Judiciary Committee, chaired by Rep. John Conyers (D-MI).

Conyers has yet to release a public statement on the motion, but has in the past not been supportive of impeachment efforts. The resolution to impeach Cheney, which Kucinich presented in April 2007, remains stalled in the committee he chairs.

Its funny but if you go to youtube and look up all the canididates, all of them have so many NEGATIVE videos about them and the lies they tell, EXCEPT RON PAUL. He is someone who tells you exactly what he thinks and why he thinks it, and there are no lies, no deception.... we all complain about the presidents we have or have had and now we have the chance to change it! JUST VOTE FOR A REAL PERSON!!! VOTE RON PAUL

RON PAUL IS STILL IN THE ELECTION. Isnt it a little odd to you that the media is not giving him any publilcity??? DUH ITS BECAUSE THEY DONT WANT HIM TO WIN. THEY WANT THE SAME LIERS AND FREEDOM SUPPRESORS LIKE BUSH, MCCAIN, CLITON, OBAMA....THEY ARE ALL THE SAME. I did want Obama to win but not when I saw his lies just like the other canididates lies. They all want the government to controll our lives. BUT NOT RON PAUL!!! HE WANTS LESS GOVERNMENT AND MORE FREEDOM.
He wants us to do what we want and say what we want and live off the same beliefs our forefathers had when this country was founded! The media sais he isnt running BUT HE STILL IS! PLEASE PEOPLE GET OUT THERE AND VOTE FOR OUR FREEDOMS, VOTE FOR OUR FUTURE CHILDRENS FREEDOMS! VOTE RON PAUL!!!!!!
Just got this from my buddy Ray T:

Wow! This just in. Related to your impeachment efforts.
I am relieved to see it, in fact had virtually given up. Better months (years?) late than never.
Maybe timing was indeed an issue, warranting postponement until now. I cannot think that deeply.

COLORADO VETS GROUP CALLS FOR
IMPEACHMENT OF CHENEY AND BUSH

Colorado Veterans for America (CVA) today called
for the impeachment of Vice President Dick Cheney
and President George W. Bush.

CVA is a 2,000 member nonprofit group that has endorsed and worked for successful candidacies of U.S. Senator Ken Salazar, U.S. Representative John Salazar, U.S. Representative Ed Perlmutter, Colorado Governor Bill Ritter, and Joe Rice, state representative, House District 38 in Littleton.

Both the President and Vice President repeatedly lied to Congress and the American people to bring us and other nations to war against Iraq and to continue that war, said CVA Acting President Jim Hudson.

And both willfully promoted and attempted to cover up U.S. policies of barbarous torture and brutality leading to death and disability of combatants as well as innocent Iraqi civilians. In doing so, both violated U.S. law, international law, and simple morality. And they undermined the worldwide dignity, integrity, and goodwill earned through the sacrifice of hundreds of thousands of precious Americans lives in earlier just and necessary wars, Hudson added.

CVA's members actively campaign for candidates that share the group's values by making individual contributions, marching with candidates in parades, campaigning door-to-door, phone banking, recruiting volunteers, sponsoring fundraising events in their homes, writing letters-to-the-editor, phoning radio talk shows, conducting press conferences, and holding demonstrations or push-back activities.

According to an article quoted on RawStory.com today and originally published by the Jerusalem Post Bush Will Attack Iran before the end of 2008.

Per RawStory.com:
An article in Tuesday's Jerusalem Post claims that US strikes on Iran are imminent.

"US President George W. Bush intends to attack Iran in the upcoming months, before the end of his term, Army Radio quoted a senior official in Jerusalem as saying Tuesday," the Israeli newspaper reports.
Excerpts from article:

#
The official claimed that a senior member of the president's entourage, which concluded a trip to Israel last week, said during a closed meeting that Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney were of the opinion that military action was called for.
However, the official continued, "the hesitancy of Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice" was preventing the administration from deciding to launch such an attack on the Islamic Republic, for the time being.
The report stated that according to assessments in Israel, recent turmoil in Lebanon, where Hizbullah de facto established control of the country, was advancing an American attack.
-------------------

SO! Why are our Colorado Congressmen, especially Rep. Udaall not screaming for Impeachment Hearings?

Rep. john Conyers, Chairman of the US House Judiciary Committee has said that Bush should be impeached if he attacks Iran. So has former Presidential Candidate Senator Joe Biden.

Isn't it time that one of our brave Colorado Congressmen stood up and called for impeachment hearings Before The Killing Starts Anew?????

And where is our ACLU Of Colorado (led by Cathryn Hazouri) when you need them to lead on Impeachment? They are doing a great job for the crazies in Recreate68 but are not protecting Our US Constitution from the Cheney/Bush criminals.

New York, NY -- United for Peace and Justice, the country's largest anti-war coalition with over 1400 member groups, condemns President Bush's continued arrogant and unconstitutional use of signing statements.

The U.S. Constitution requires that the president "take care that the laws be faithfully executed."

"The rule of law established by the Constitution has been undermind in an almost unnoticed revolution," said Leslie Cagan, National Coordinator of United for Peace and Justice (UFPJ).

"The Constitution allows the president to veto bills or sign and enforce them, not to rewrite them or to disobey them.

The same document that gives the Congress the power to make every law, gives it the sole power to raise and spend money, and the sole power to declare war.

The people's representatives in Congress are losing all of these powers through their failure to act on the remedy provided for precisely this situation: impeachment."

See rest of the article HERE

UFPJ is urging its members to speak with the media about this matter and to contact the House Judiciary Committee to request that it begin impeachment hearings immediately.

You can email the entire House Judiciary Committee with just one email message using this LINK AND See this link for a list of telephone numbers, Washington Toll Free and local numbers, email addresses, and fax numbers for the House Judiciary Committee and our Colorado Congresmen/women.

According to an article in today's Washington Post, a survey has found that Iraqi casualties from the current conflict actually appear to have been 151,000 so far, down from a previous estimate of as many a 601,000. The article goes on to say that 9 out of 10 of those casualties were the direct result of engagement of hostile forces...etc. etc. If the information in the survey is accurate, then collateral damage from the oil driven/profiteering war would only be about twenty percent atrocious as previously believed.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/01/09/AR2008010902793....

It must've been a bad day... a really bad day in Iraq. A day when the embedded reporters, Fox News, the Pentagon and White House didn't want to talk about how bad things had gotten. A day in the war that didn't make to the floor of the Senate for open debate and discussion. A day when even a fast food contractor there to provide our troops with a little bit of home, wouldn't provide some compassion for a soldier caught in a mortar attack in their very facility the day before couldn't get his order replaced after having to take his own tee-shirt to fashion a bandage for someone else wounded in the attack. What would you have done? And of all the sources for the story of this bad day and the mutiny that followed, The Army Times thanks to VVAW:

http://www.armytimes.com/news/2007/12/bloodbrothers3/

So the Democrats have once again caved in to the administration for procedural reasons and pork barrelling and voted to fund the war. Does anyone on Capitol Hill even consider the bleeding of our economy in tax dollars, much less human life this war represents? Obviously the party's leadership are making their opinions based on the administration's assessment and Fox News' presentation of how we are doing, because they are not paying attention to the polls. If you haven't lost a family member in this never ending conflict, God bless you. If you have then you can understand why after losing two members of our family, and a third one on his way to his first tour, we find the parties continued support, covert or overt, and lack of political backbone disgusting.

CNN's latest opinion poll shows 68 percent of Americans oppose the war... 31 percent support it with one percent unsure.

CBS News/New York Times poll from December 5-9th shows that 69 percent of Americans disapprove of the way George Bush is handling the war... with 26 percent approving and 5 percent unsure.

USA Today/Gallup Poll for Nov 30-Dec. 2 shows that 57 percent of Americans feel that the United States made a mistake in sending troops to Iraq... 41 percent said we did not make a mistake and 2 percent were unsure.

Pew Research Center for the People & the Press survey conducted for Nov. 20-26, 2007 said 54 percent of Americans felt we should bring home the troops as soon as possible... 41 percent said we should stay until Iraq is stabilized and 5 percent were unsure.

NBC News/Wall Street Journal Poll on Nov. 1-5, 2007 in half their sample, 68 percent did not approve of the president's handling of the situation in Iraq ... while 27 percent approved and 5 percent were unsure.

ABC News/Washington Post Poll Oct. 29-Nov. 1 stated that 63 percent of Americans felt that the cost/benefit of the war in Iraq was not worth it to the United States... 35 percent felt it was worth it and 2 percent were unsure.

But the results I found to be most telling of the current feelings of Americans is the CBS News Poll from September 14-16 where pollsters asked "Do you approve or disapprove of the way Democrats in Congress are handling the situation with Iraq?" 57 percent of those polled disapproved, 31 percent said they approved and 2 percent were unsure.

The party went into the midterm election with not a lot to offer voters in the way of substance, and won the seats they need in Congress based on poor leadership and scandle among the opposition. They fulfilled that commitment, but there hasn't been a change in the direction... there's still a war, the economy is no better, the mortgage crisis, immigration... all substantive issues seem to be on hold for a popularity contest. Where's the meat?

Here's the link if you want to see the polls.

Who is this guy? An interesting and hot discussion on the blogs at ProgressNowAction.org regarding Congressman Udalls senatorial campaign. A blogger at ProgressNowAction.org by the profile name of "Johne" apparently organized a bunch of Udall supporters to pack Udalls Town Hall Meeting Wednesday afternoon in response to a plea that went out from the leader of  Boulders Rocky Mountain Peace & Justice Center for all anti-Iraq War activists to attend Rep. Udall's Town Hall Meeting and press their views on Udall.

"Johne" also later posted a reply ( Sep 13th 2007 at 7:20 am MDT) on a post by Michael Collins regarding Udall
Udall has a big problem where he made his "get the fuck out of mine and Mark's way just because you don't agree with his strategy to end the war in Iraq" comment.  Rep. Udall is a candidate to replace Allard as a Senator for the great State Of Colorado.

I think Rep. Udall should apologize to everyone for his supporters boorish behavior.

The conduct of establishment Colorado  Democrats toward those of us who want the War to end now and Impeachment is getting worse by the day.

MoveOn's Petition to: Stop Executive Overreach

MoveOn has distributed this Petition to tell Congress
to demand answers by Subpoena from the Bush administration
about the Iraq war and their illegal spying program, and not back down,
to hold Vice President Cheney in contempt of Congress
and send over the police if necessary,

And if that doesn't work, Impeach the guy.

Well done MoveOn, count me in and tell me what I can do get more Americans to sign this petition.

I hope all MoveOn members will sign this petition now! And have a Great Fourth Of July.

Dear MoveOn member,

You've probably seen the news this morning: President Bush let Cheney aide Scooter Libby, the one man who was convicted for the lies around the Iraq war, go free. Paris Hilton served more jail time than he will.

Bush and Cheney think their administration is above the law. That's un-American, and this July 4th it's time for Congress to re-assert its constitutional authority and
top the administration's obstruction of justice.

Congress can start until they get them. Cheney won't testify? Subpoena him. He won't come? Hold him in contempt of Congress and send over the police.

And if that doesn't work, impeach the guy.

We just can't let President Bush and his administration dismantle our Constitution.

This July 4th, it's time to bring checks and balances back again. Click here to sign the petition and send a message to Congress to act now (the text of the petition is in the box to the right):

Link

Then please send this message to your friends, family, and others who would be interested. This issue has everyone outraged--only 32 percent of Republicans agree with the president's decision.

This isn't just about the Bush administration, of course. Law is determined through precedent. If Congress doesn't rein the Bush administration in, it'll change the rules for every administration that comes after.

And letting Libby off the hook is only the most recent example of a consistent Bush administration pattern of obstruction of justice.

When their illegal program of warrantless wiretapping was revealed, the Bush administration refused to answer subpoenas from Congress to testify about what, precisely, they were doing. When Attorney General Alberto Gonzales--the nation's highest law-enforcement officer--testified in front of Congress under oath, he lied and said the program didn't exist.2

And in retrospect, it's clear what Bush meant when he said this about the Plame case back in 2003: "[I]f there is a leak out of my administration, I want to know who it is. And if the person has violated law, the person will be taken care of."3 Last night, Bush certainly took care of Scooter Libby.

On Sunday, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Pat Leahy said he would hold Cheney and others in the administration in contempt of Congress if they refused to directly answer questions. Members of Congress are asserting their authority and standing up.

But they need to know the American people are behind them. Can you take a moment to click this link and send that message right now?

Link

As they say in civics class, America is a country of laws, not of men. It's time for Congress to stand up and use them.

Let's celebrate Independence Day by reaffirming the basic, founding idea of our government: No one, not even the president of the United States , is above the law.

Thanks for all you do.

Something for patriots to do in Denver on July Fourth

All of you who are outraged at the un-Constitutional actions of Libby, Cheney, and Bush should show up at Colorado's longest running Impeachment Rally on July 4th at 5 pm at Colfax & Broadway in Denver.

This event is part of a Colorado Impeachment effort that has been quietly taking place twice a week since Jan 23rd. We have held at least two impeachment events each week in Denver. Join us. Link

We will have signs. You may bring you own. Just show up to show your love of Country. Now is the time to come to the defense of your Constitution and Laws. Cheney, Libby and Bush's Neocons will literally get away with murdering 3,500 US soldiers over Cheney's WMD lies. Don't let them get away with it. Show your outrage. Show up.

Perhaps we may yet prove to Denver's Corporate Media that the Voters Last Resort "Impeachment" is not off the table. Cheney is very vulnerable to Impeachment.

Call 800-828-0498 and tell all of Colorado's Congressmen to become a Co-Sponsor on US Rep Kucinich's Impeach Cheney Bill H Res 333.and if you can find the time, Call All Of the Country's Congessmen to do the Same.

This last week Kucinich's Impeach Bill picked up more Co-Sponsors... It Will Happen.

The Democrats will not be able to ignore Impeachment because of the revelations of un-Constitutional actions by Cheney will come out. They will look like fools if they don't Impeach, and lose in November 2008.

Please Vote to Impeach in the National Cheney Impeachment Poll at

..
..
In an article from McClatchy Newspapers, the Democrats will not risk possibly offending some voters by taking action against Bush and Cheney. Quoted by Ward Reilly, the article states:

"There are both policy and political reasons that Democratic leaders are
risking the anger of their base.

One is that some don't see an impeachable offense in what Bush has
done, what the Constitution calls "high crimes and misdemeanors." They
might find such evidence in any of the many congressional investigations, but they haven't yet.

Another is that they fear a political backlash from voters similar to
the one that punished Republicans after they impeached Bill Clinton. One factoron the side of the pro-impeachment crowd: Clinton was much more popular than Bush.

The third is that they're eager to keep Bush and Cheney around as
punching bags for Democratic candidates in the 2008 campaign."

This confirms my personal suspicions I alluded to in my earlier post today about the two parties... cut from the same political cloth... looking out for their interests, not ours. Sorry, no link for this one, you have to go to VVAW.net yourself.
As smarmy and feel good as grassroots politics may sound to progressives, in Washington DC, our elected officials uncover all kinds of news they don't want to hear and cover it up because it doesn't pertain to whatever they are investigating. Negligent, that is the only word to describe it. BBC has exposed a system of 'caging' in emails subpeonaed during the Gonzales hearings, an illegal process, in fact a felony, whereby registered voters are disqualified from participating in an election by elimination from the roles. The shocking part is that black American soldiers and servicemen are being targeted. The link is below.

Link

After reading this, I can hardly blame Cindy Sheehan for abandoning the Democratic party. Her analysis, in so many words was correct... they have their heads up their a**es almost as far as the Republicans.
By ignoring reality. In a recent report, analysts told the Pentagon that equipment needed by our troops to fulfill their mission is not arriving in time to help units achieve their missions.

Link

Perhaps we can tell the enemy how tough we are and they will just put down their weapons and surrender.
