Denver 7B Progressives
Meeting group for Denver progressives living in subdistrict 7B.
We had a little fun with 'Foxy' the fox today... NO, not That Kind of Fun!
We heard that Frontier was doing a Campaign Interview style promo for the 'Foxy' Frontier's Favorite Animal at the Civic Center today across from the City Hall. So we thought this would be great test of our Concept of Instant Vigils.
We flew downtown and did a 'one indian' to their 'circle the wagons' maneuver. The media types applauded my arrival but grumbled later when they had trouble getting a shot without our signs in the background.
Our sign on one side said.
Call Foxy and tell her to
Stop the Iraq War
and impeach Bush
and on the other side
Call Foxy and say
Stop the War and
impeach Bush.
Amazing the amount of eyeballs these signs got.
It was Fun...
you all shoulda been there.
Maybe next time, eh! Join Us.
Impeachment can be fun.

is having a MeetUp 7 pm TONIGHT at the Hooked On Colfax Coffee House (w/ Free Wifi ) at 3215 East Colfax Ave, Denver. Anyone interested in the possibility of holding Bush and Cheney accountable for their crimes is welcome to join us. We believe that we can put enough public pressure on our US Representatives we might be able to cause a Bill of impeachment. ( Yes..especially the Democrats we elected... the ones who dissed Bush/Cheney so, who now are Congressmen who have the power to Impeach).
We are doing two weekly vigils so far, one on
">Link
Wednesdays at Noon at the State Capital in Denver and on Link
Thursdays at Noon at US Rep. DeGette's Denver Office at East 6th & Grant. The purpose of the Wednesday and Thursday Vigils is to attract the attention of our State Legislature. our two Daily Newspapers, and the public. We hope that someone in the Legislature will carry a bill to ask the US House to begin proceedings on Impeachment (as New Mexico's Democrats are doing).
We hope the newpapers will consider that if Bill Clinton can be brought up on Impeachment for lying about sex... then perhaps the more serious offense of lying to Congress ( and Voters) just before a vote on War Resolution should require the same journalistic attention.
We hope the public will begin to see that this ( lying to Congress) is a more serious matter even than the Iraq War itself (if that is possible). The previous 'do nothing' Republican Congress was not much of a check on Bush's Imperial ambitions and our current Democratic Congress' Leadership would like to ignore impeachment and 'move on 'as they say, and hope it just goes away. What they are trying to ignore is the fact that all of Bush's lies and Signing Statements add up to a huge expansion of Presidential Power. We need to protect our grandchildren from the future Imperial excesses of the next President RunAmuck, regardless of which party they come from.
We need to put the Fear Of Impeachment into all future presidential candidates.
Bush doesn't think the Congress will call his bluff and impeach him, so he will push his supposed 'powers' to the limit. Democratic leaders in the House and Senate are kidding themselves if they think he will back off. And even if he does, shouldn't he be held accountable for lying to Congress about a War resolution in the first place... to prevent this from recurring? And about the 700 plus Signing Statements. Saying he will ignore US Laws, after taking an Oath to Uphold them.
I'll stop now....
See you tonight at Hooked On Colfax,
and Wed. at the Capital,
and Thursday at DeGette's Office
PS... We've already started getting Push Back, from Democrats no less, about Vigiling in front of DeGette's Office. Why her they say... Well.. she is in a 'safe' seat, she now has powerful positions on very important Congressional Committees. She Can support this without endangering her re-election far more than other Democratic US Reps.
As a lifelong Democrat, I've voted for DeGette in every election and carried signs for her and probably will do so in the future. I think she is Super. However, I think she and all the other Democratic Reps will duck Impeachment if we let them. We will Vigil at other Colorado US Representative's offices as soon as we have the volunteers (all of them).
join us.

A coincidence? It seems like all of these "fear based" horrible events can be fixed by companies Cheney, Bush and others are involved in. So now they want to pass on 75% of the costs of buying flu remedies to the states, I suppose since any surpluses at the Federal level are gone. The problem is, most states are in financial turmoil and there are serious questions if the plan would even work. Perhaps we need a mutual fund called "Criminals in The Whitehouse Index Fund". We could index their investments and that way we could all be sure our investments are doing great. A few starters would be Gilead Sciences, Halliburton and Exxon. There are many more.

"On December First, 1955, Mrs. Parks had finished her work as a seamstress in a Montgomery, Alabama, store and boarded a city bus to go home. She took a seat in the 11th row, behind the seats reserved exclusively for white passengers, as required by the city's segregation law at that time. Blacks were entitled to seats from the 11th row to the rear of a bus. However, the city law said if the first 10 rows were filled, a white passenger could request a seat in the back of a bus. Rosa Parks remembered the bus was crowded with people standing in the aisle when several whites boarded. A white man told the driver he wanted a seat. The driver, who had the authority under city law, went to the rear of the bus and ordered Mrs. Parks and three other black passengers to get up. The others reluctantly stood. Rosa Parks, tired after a day of work, refused." Read the full article
Commercials, commercials, commercials... It is amazing that people fall for the lies.
Here it is folks, read it and weep! The memo outlines that we must cut $365,000,000 from the 06-07 budget if Referendum C fails. Take a look at the programs and the numbers… this is what is coming… IT DOES AFFECT YOU!
READ THE MEMO!!! Here are some "highlights":
"…included are the savings from reducing Corrections and Higher Education by 10 percent, which would generate $53.3 million and $59.8 million, respectively. However, given the fundamental impracticality and the public safety impacts of the cuts in Corrections, it is likely that a minimum 20 percent cut in Higher Education, as well as other cuts not proposed herein would be necessary to balance the FY 2006-07 budget if Referendum C fails." {page 1}
"Eliminate Motorist Insurance Identification Database" {page 4}
"Eliminate Instant Criminal Background Check" {page 5}
"Eliminate Office for Victims Programs" {page 5}
"Eliminate Office of Domestic Violence and Sex Offender Management" {page 5}
"... the [Natural Resources] Department has indicated that this would entail permanently closing 11 state parks..." {page 5}
"Eliminate the Poison Control Hotline" {page 6}
But thats not all.... READ THE MEMO and Forward this to EVERYONE YOU KNOW!

Below is a posting that I posted at Moveon.org's ActionForum. They have become tougher and tougher to get in touch with... what do you think? Feel free to comment!

First off, let me say, I have donated money to MoveOn.org and supported them in various ways.
Yesterday Moveon sent out an email to Colorado members asking if they supported Referendum C. The long story short is that Ref. C helps to fix some problems with TABOR (tax payers bill of rights) to allow Colorado to recover from our recession. Moveon missed the fact that Referendum D is also a big part of the fix, as it allows for roads and bridges to be repaired and police pensions to be paid. Colorado is in trouble if Ref C and D fail, but why has it taken Moveon so long to even ask their members about this? This is bigger then Colorado, since 17 or so other states are looking at TABOR like amendments that would limit government to the point where higher education funding, K-12 funding and road/bridge funding are nearly eliminated. The opposition is receiving out of state money to stop C&D because their goal is, as Grover Norquist puts it, "… to cut government in half in twenty-five years, to get it down to the size where we can drown it in the bathtub." Say goodbye to public services, roads, schools and police…
To top this off, the Moveon email said that Election Day is November 8th. It is NOT the 8th in Colorado, it is the 1st. Requests to let the "grassroots" group know about the error seem to have had no effect. Sure hope the vote is not close.

Big news today: An arrest warrant was issued today for Tom "The Hammer" DeLay. No, it wasn't for his role in the Contract on America, or any of his other infractions against Americans. It was for money laundering and conspiracy. I'm just glad it wasn't something serious, like lying about sex....
The Denver Business Journal supports C&D. Read their well put together opinion on the topic from a few weeks back.
If you know any undecided voters who would like something beyond "Move Colorado Forward" send them this opinion. It would have been terrific to have something like this two months ago that could have been distributed. This is a great reference for letters that will be written… and even for canvassing!
The flyer that Yes on C&D distributed is great at saying WHAT C&D are... but there is no flyer on WHY we need them. The common answer seems to be that people do not want to read or think. If that is the case, then come Election Day (November 1st), I guess people will get what they pay for, which may not be much!
"There's no pot of money, no bloated bureaucracy to eliminate, no ineffective government program left to cut that's politically viable to make the state's books balance. After five years of budget trimming, accounting gimmicks, and tuition and wide-ranging fee increases, Colorado is down to its muscle and bone -- public schools, public colleges and universities, roads and bridges, and health care for the poor. Something's got to give"

First of all, Election Day in Colorado is November 1st!!!
Moveon.org is wondering if they should support C. They seem to be a little late to the game, but better late then never...
Read the full text below, or sign the petition...
Also, mention support of D in your comments, since they seem to have missed it!
As a side note, encourage MoveOn to get in touch with real people. They really seem to be out of touch with the people... They missed D, had the wrong date and are a "bit" late. MoveOn has provided a lot of positive momemtum for the movement on the left, but they need to be sure they do not forget that they are a grassroots group.

In yesterday's Washington Post an op-ed by Senator Carl Levin (D-MI) outlined how setting a time table for withdrawing troops from Iraq will actually help the process. The basic logic, which makes some sense, is that the Sunnis, Shiites, and Kurds will have a huge insentive to work together if they know we're leaving by a set date. I'd imagine all three groups would prefer avoiding civil war. With US troops there trying to keep some peace between the groups, they certainly have less incentive to compromise on a constitution or other form of government.
At the very least, getting our troops out of Iraq might remove the bull's eye on the country for outside terrorist groups. I don't know if this is a solution, but Bush's status quo approach certainly isn't any better.
Maybe if we bring out troops home, we can refocus some of them on finding Osama?
