Peace
For people concerned about peace in the world

US House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers is calling the membership of the Judiciary Committee back from their Fall recess to investigate Ron Suskind's revelations about the forged letter that falsely said that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.

It has been reported that the order to the CIA to have the letter forged came on White House Stationary.

On Democracy Now today Conyers said "The 110th Congress isn't over. We're starting our work, and then we're doing it in a period where the Congress is in recess. I'm calling everybody back. We've got a huge amount of work to engage in."

Impeachment Begins! Preliminary Hearing Friday July 25th

By David Swanson www.afterdowningstreet.org

At 10 a.m. on Friday July 25th, the House Judiciary Committee will hold a preliminary hearing in Rayburn Building Room 2141 on the topic of impeachment, with a presentation by Congressman Dennis Kucinich. This is not yet a true impeachment hearing, but it is our opportunity to push for one, and it represents a tremendous victory after years of effort by millions of Americans who want to keep the Constitution alive. This never would have happened without your hard work. And we can't let up now! The National Impeachment Network is organizing a rally and asking everyone who can to take a day off for justice and meet at 9 a.m. on Friday July 25th in front of the Rayburn House Office Building on the Independence Avenue side. Bring impeachment shirts and posters! For more information contact ningroup@gmail.com.

David Swanson reports that Veterans for Peace had a meeting on impeachment already scheduled with Conyers for the 25th. He notes that they'll be in town and could perhaps take a lead in organizing people.

He also suggests contacting CodePink for organizing assistance.

From David Swanson:

The peace movement has stood for peace and justice, for ending wars, preventing new ones, and building peace. Our top priority in Washington, D.C., has been ending the funding of the occupation. That work is over for the next year, because Congress has provided that funding.

We can still work against recruitment, we can still educate, we can still agitate, we can still oppose an attack on Iran. But one of our secondary priorities in Washington has been imposing a penalty for the illegal attack on Iraq in order to discourage future attacks on Iran or anywhere else.

We have pushed half-heartedly for impeachment,
with our main lobbying focus on cutting off the money.

Now, at the same time that the money is
a done deal for another year,

the possibility of impeachment is beginning to spark. After over two years of declaring impeachment "off the table," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has relented and suggested that some sort of preliminary hearing be held in the Judiciary Committee - and specifically on the impeachable offense of misleading a nation into war.

If the peace movement is not just a movement against one war or occupation, but a movement for peace, we should push with everything we've got for that (impeachment) hearing to happen, happen soon, and happen well.

We should ask everyone who cares about peace to phone Pelosi and Committee Chairman John Conyers, as well as their own representatives, whom they should ask to introduce their own articles of impeachment.

We've been on a losing streak, brothers and sisters, and the door is cracking open toward a major victory. Let's open that door fully and lead a peaceful march of millions through it.

Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich said he will introduce a single article of impeachment against President George W. Bush Thursday for “taking our nation and our troops to war based on lies.”

Last month, Kucinich introduced 35 articles of impeachment against President Bush in the form of a privileged resolution.

Kucinich, a former 2008 Democratic presidential candidate, spent four-hours reading the impeachment articles into the Congressional Record last month. He accused the commander-in-chief of a wide range of high crimes and misdemeanors, such as lying to Congress and the public to win support for the Iraq war.

The impeachment articles introduced by Kucinich last month took place a few days after the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence released a long-awaited report on prewar Iraq intelligence that concluded President Bush and Vice President Cheney knowingly lied to the public and to Congress about Iraq's links to al-Qaeda and the threat the country posed to the U.S. in the aftermath of 9/11.

“These articles of impeachment are about accountability,” Kucinich said. “I think our country is at risk. We’re setting a terrible precedent for future administrations if we choose to turn a blind eye to the crimes committed by this administration."

The House of Representatives referred the Bush articles of impeachment to the Judiciary Committee, chaired by Rep. John Conyers (D-MI).

Conyers has yet to release a public statement on the motion, but has in the past not been supportive of impeachment efforts. The resolution to impeach Cheney, which Kucinich presented in April 2007, remains stalled in the committee he chairs.

COLORADO VETS GROUP CALLS FOR
IMPEACHMENT OF CHENEY AND BUSH

Colorado Veterans for America (CVA) today called
for the impeachment of Vice President Dick Cheney
and President George W. Bush.

CVA is a 2,000 member nonprofit group that has endorsed and worked for successful candidacies of U.S. Senator Ken Salazar, U.S. Representative John Salazar, U.S. Representative Ed Perlmutter, Colorado Governor Bill Ritter, and Joe Rice, state representative, House District 38 in Littleton.

Both the President and Vice President repeatedly lied to Congress and the American people to bring us and other nations to war against Iraq and to continue that war, said CVA Acting President Jim Hudson.

And both willfully promoted and attempted to cover up U.S. policies of barbarous torture and brutality leading to death and disability of combatants as well as innocent Iraqi civilians. In doing so, both violated U.S. law, international law, and simple morality. And they undermined the worldwide dignity, integrity, and goodwill earned through the sacrifice of hundreds of thousands of precious Americans lives in earlier just and necessary wars, Hudson added.

CVA's members actively campaign for candidates that share the group's values by making individual contributions, marching with candidates in parades, campaigning door-to-door, phone banking, recruiting volunteers, sponsoring fundraising events in their homes, writing letters-to-the-editor, phoning radio talk shows, conducting press conferences, and holding demonstrations or push-back activities.

Neither Democrats nor Thom Hartmann (nor any of the sites to which impeachco links) can be made to notice the fact that Traitor-in-chief Bush has twice inadvertently made loose-lips-sink-ships statements implicating himself in 9/11 (whatever it was...):

IOW, Bush repeatedly, voluntarily(!) told us that what he knew and when he know it, and how he knew it: Link = 911blimp.net/aud_BushImplicate sBush.shtml"

To this blog posting of mine Link

If I cannot get help identifying this person I will go to Qwest, then to the authorities. Given that the caller references websites he apparently owns that are hosted out of state I will if necessary get the FBI involved. Server records at PNA and the website hosting service (and Qwest phone records) can be gotten by subpeona. I would like to settle this quietly and quickly if possible.

I would appreciate everyone's help in identifying this person. The messages on our voice mail were a carbon copy of his reply message on ProgressNowAction.org I think he may be a 9/11 Truther who is frustrated that Cheney and Bush may be allowed to get away with their crimes without accountability. I sympathize, but this is not the way.

The ownership of 911blimp.net which apparently is his website, is also anonymous, but I suspect it is related to the other websites he references...
911u.org and fawcett911.us
( both of which are listed as being owned by someone in Colorado Springs) The owner's listed Verison phone number of 719-555-000 is not working and was I suspect phoney when submitted.

All three of these websites are hosted by advancednetworkhosting.com in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, leading me to suspect that all are owned by the person who is making the anonymous phone calls to me.

PLEASE: Anyone having some knowledge of who this please email me, John Kennedy at "protestinthestreet@yahoo.com"

Thank you.

PS: to the perpetrator. I will end my investigation if you email me an apology complete with your full name, address, and phone number, and a promise never to do it again.

Just so the perp understands: I do op/eds at author at OpEdNews.com.

A few days ago a fellow commented on one of my articles by suggesting the assassination of Congressmen. I immediately reported the guy to the FBI and the Secret Service. It turned out to be under the jurisdiction of the Secret Service which is currently investigating. I have recordings of your voice messages and I am not bluffing.

An emailed apology done Very Soon will end it, otherwise?

This is an Emergency Appeal for Donations for an Impeachment Ad in Roll Call, the Capitol Hill newspaper,
that Congress Will Read next Tuesday.
The Impeachment Group behind this effort to push Congress to adopt the 1973 Nixon Flooding Plan for impeaching Cheney is asking for your quick donation to help pay for an advertisement in Roll Call.

We want to run this Impeachment Ad on Tuesday April 29 in Roll Call, the Capital Hill Newspaper that ALL members of Congress
and their staffs read avidly.

The ad answers House Speaker Pelosi's argument- echoed by many House members (perhaps yours)- that President Bush and Vice President Cheney will be out of office by January 30, 2009 so why bother with impeachment.

If our Colorado Congressman don't "bother" with impeachment, they are permitting all the "high-crime precedents" that Nixon and Bush and Cheney have put in place to be used by future Presidents.

And those "Presidential Precedents" will nullify Congress, overthrow the Constitution and our democracy-- and set up a "unitary executive" dictatorship.

Impeachment NOW will Stop These High-Crime Precedents-Cold!

This 1/4 page ad emphasizes "Presidential Precedents" to Congress.
But it will cost $ 3,715 to appear in Roll Call.

We desperately need contributions
Now to cover that cost so your Congressional Representative and all others will see it on Tuesday, April 29. We are part of the way to the goal.

Please Help Make This Happen. Your small donation matters.

According to an article in today's Washington Post, a survey has found that Iraqi casualties from the current conflict actually appear to have been 151,000 so far, down from a previous estimate of as many a 601,000. The article goes on to say that 9 out of 10 of those casualties were the direct result of engagement of hostile forces...etc. etc. If the information in the survey is accurate, then collateral damage from the oil driven/profiteering war would only be about twenty percent atrocious as previously believed.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/01/09/AR2008010902793....

It must've been a bad day... a really bad day in Iraq. A day when the embedded reporters, Fox News, the Pentagon and White House didn't want to talk about how bad things had gotten. A day in the war that didn't make to the floor of the Senate for open debate and discussion. A day when even a fast food contractor there to provide our troops with a little bit of home, wouldn't provide some compassion for a soldier caught in a mortar attack in their very facility the day before couldn't get his order replaced after having to take his own tee-shirt to fashion a bandage for someone else wounded in the attack. What would you have done? And of all the sources for the story of this bad day and the mutiny that followed, The Army Times thanks to VVAW:

http://www.armytimes.com/news/2007/12/bloodbrothers3/

So the Democrats have once again caved in to the administration for procedural reasons and pork barrelling and voted to fund the war. Does anyone on Capitol Hill even consider the bleeding of our economy in tax dollars, much less human life this war represents? Obviously the party's leadership are making their opinions based on the administration's assessment and Fox News' presentation of how we are doing, because they are not paying attention to the polls. If you haven't lost a family member in this never ending conflict, God bless you. If you have then you can understand why after losing two members of our family, and a third one on his way to his first tour, we find the parties continued support, covert or overt, and lack of political backbone disgusting.

CNN's latest opinion poll shows 68 percent of Americans oppose the war... 31 percent support it with one percent unsure.

CBS News/New York Times poll from December 5-9th shows that 69 percent of Americans disapprove of the way George Bush is handling the war... with 26 percent approving and 5 percent unsure.

USA Today/Gallup Poll for Nov 30-Dec. 2 shows that 57 percent of Americans feel that the United States made a mistake in sending troops to Iraq... 41 percent said we did not make a mistake and 2 percent were unsure.

Pew Research Center for the People & the Press survey conducted for Nov. 20-26, 2007 said 54 percent of Americans felt we should bring home the troops as soon as possible... 41 percent said we should stay until Iraq is stabilized and 5 percent were unsure.

NBC News/Wall Street Journal Poll on Nov. 1-5, 2007 in half their sample, 68 percent did not approve of the president's handling of the situation in Iraq ... while 27 percent approved and 5 percent were unsure.

ABC News/Washington Post Poll Oct. 29-Nov. 1 stated that 63 percent of Americans felt that the cost/benefit of the war in Iraq was not worth it to the United States... 35 percent felt it was worth it and 2 percent were unsure.

But the results I found to be most telling of the current feelings of Americans is the CBS News Poll from September 14-16 where pollsters asked "Do you approve or disapprove of the way Democrats in Congress are handling the situation with Iraq?" 57 percent of those polled disapproved, 31 percent said they approved and 2 percent were unsure.

The party went into the midterm election with not a lot to offer voters in the way of substance, and won the seats they need in Congress based on poor leadership and scandle among the opposition. They fulfilled that commitment, but there hasn't been a change in the direction... there's still a war, the economy is no better, the mortgage crisis, immigration... all substantive issues seem to be on hold for a popularity contest. Where's the meat?

Here's the link if you want to see the polls.

Please join Congresswoman Diana DeGette tonight at the Windsor Gardens Auditorium as she gives her constituents a progress report from Washington.

I got this information from her Denver Congressional District Office just a few minutes ago.

Location: Windsor Gardens Auditorium 595 S. Clinton St.

Time: 7 pm Tuesday evening May 29 (TONIGHT) 1 hour only... talk fast!

Directions from Denver: East on Alameda to Clinton and then South on Clinton for 1-2 blks. The Auditoriun is attached to the clubhouse and to the rear of it.

A great time to ask about her saving 1,000 US Soldiers lives by stopping the Iraq War Now, not next year.

And oh yes there is the issue of the Cheney WMD Lies that put our soldiers in harms way in the first place.

Is DeGette going to protect Cheney from accountability for the lies and make him pay a political price for lying.. or let Cheney skate?

Will she become a Co-Sponsor on US Rep. Kucinich's Bill to Impeach Cheney?

Does she think it is important that she vote to uphold and protect the US Constitution?

Does she think someone worse than Bush will every be President?
Could it be a threat to our Constitutional Republic if that happened?

Tell her Presidents will never fear Impeachment or respect Congress if she and the others Never Impeach anyone.

How about Gonzales?

She's your Congresswoman and she works for you.

Tell her (respectfully) what you want her to do.

Could it be that even the Conservatives are beginning to accept that Bush and Cheney have committed unforgiveable, impeachable offenses against the voters and the Constitution? And deserve Impeachment?

Time will tell.

According to an article at Townhall.com a very Conservative website
By Matt Towery

Bush-Cheney Impeachment Might Be Idle Talk,

But Numbers Show True Trouble

Anti-war Congressman John Murtha of Pennsylvania is prominent among some Democrats in his use of the "I" word -- impeachment -- about President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. Murtha made his comments on CBS's "Face the Nation" and elsewhere.

Few serious observers think things will ever get to actual impeachment.

And yet the American public seems more open to the concept
than many imagine, according to a new national poll.

The implications of this public sentiment could be huge for the 2008 presidential elections.

Our InsiderAdvantage/Majority Opinion poll asked this:

"Would you favor or oppose the impeachment by Congress of President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney?"

Favor: 39 percent.

Oppose: 55 percent.

Undecided/Don't Know: 6 percent.

The survey of 621 registered voters has been weighted for age, race, gender and political affiliation. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percent.

About four out of 10 Americans favor impeaching the president and vice president.

But the biggest news from this survey is not the overall results,

but the opinions of independent voters,
who usually decide presidential elections.

Forty-two percent of independents
want Bush and Cheney impeached.

These aren't just voters who disapprove of the White House.

Instead, they're for initiating a process that could remove them from office.

To help put these startling numbers into perspective,
I turned to the man most identified
with the impeachment of Bill Clinton in the 1990s,
former Congressman Bob Barr.

Recall that Barr initiated the Clinton impeachment process
by filing what's called an "Inquiry of Impeachment."

That's a resolution that precedes an actual "Bill of Impeachment." In the case of Clinton, it was filed long before anybody had heard of Monica Lewinsky.

Analyzing the InsiderAdvantage polling numbers,
Barr said, "This indicates the surprising depth of dissatisfaction with Bush.

Activist Groups believe impeachment is 'more on the table than people think'

Many activists including this writer think a backlash is rising to Speaker Pelossi's "Impeachment is off the table" congressional policy.

Progressive Democrats Of America had a major presence at the California Democratic Convention and pressed for adoption of a resolution by the California Dems to investigate and Impeach Bush and Cheney.

And across the nation on April 28 the many member groups of A28 http://A28.org held 100s of Impeachment rallys.

There were five in Colorado including two on last Saturday in Denver spondored by local activist groups. The groups in Denver were Weekly Vigils To Impeach Link , Progressive Democrats of Colorado http://pdcolorado.org , Impeachment By The People Link , and Colorado 911Visibility Link

Dave Chandler of the Metro Denver Greens counted at least 75 in attendance.(photos)
Link Other photos at Link We were glad to see MoveOn members there as well. Thanks guys.

At the MoveOn organized Veto The Veto Rally on Wednesday May 4 a great many Impeach Bush and Cheney signs were in view. The event was supported by most Colorado activist groups from the Denver area and many attended. I think there were perhaps 2-300 total there. The group occupied the entire block between Colfax and 14th on Lincoln at the Capital.

MoveOn has for some years kind of ignored the possibility of impeachment but even it is being pressured by other activist groups and by its own members to deal with impeachment.

At an A28 California Impeachment Rally many were from MoveOn. "One third of those were Move On members," said Will McRae, MoveOn coordinator for San Diego County. "For MoveOn to pretend impeachment isn't on the table is the same as Pelosi. They need to put it on their website [for a vote]. We owe it to our members." Link

At the California Democratic Convention
PDA president Tim Carpenter called passage of the impeachment resolution by California delegates "the culmination of one month of effort by PDA to put the issue of investigating, accountability and impeachment" on the table.

On Saturday, Carpenter revealed, he met with Pelosi. "I think the fact that she met with us shows she is a listener," he said, but he added, "We agreed to disagree."

Impeachment is a constitutional imperative, he believes. "If we don't begin to talk about impeachment, the next president will be allowed to torture, do wiretapping, lying, and engage in manipulation of everything in signing statements," the PDA leader predicted.

Jim Dean, head of Democracy for America and brother of Democratic National Committee chair Howard Dean, said "I think it's more on the table than people think."

CALLING FOR FULL INVESTIGATION INTO ABUSES OF POWER
BY PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH AND RICHARD B. CHENEY

Text of CA Democratic Party Impeachment Resolution
April 30, 2007, San Diego, CA Link

REAS, George W. Bush and Richard B. Cheney have acted in a manner contrary to their trust as President and Vice President, subversive of the Constitution, to the great prejudice of the cause of law and justice, and to the manifest injury of the people of California and the United States of America, by intentionally disseminating and propagating knowingly false and fabricated "evidence" regarding the threat from Iraq in order to wage a tragic, bloody war with the loss of thousands of brave American troops and Iraqi civilians, and

WHEREAS, it is clear that since September 11, 2001, President George W.
