Caldara's "bitch-slapped" comment

Earlier this week, John Caldara, a local right-wing host on Denver's 850 KOA radio, discussed the presidential candidate debates.  During his talk, he asked his guest on-air whether it "was it fair to say" that Senator Clinton (NY) "got bitch-slapped tonight?" (The Jon Caldara Show, Newsradio 850 KOA, evening broadcast 1/21/2008)

Did he really say "bitch slapped"? I know he's a talk show host. I know he pushes the envelope. But bitch slapped?  He went too far. This comment rivals Imus' "nappy headed hoes" comment.

We, as Coloradans should be outraged. And we should not stand for this hateful commentary.

Not only was this comment demeaning to women, it minimizes the severity of domestic violence women across Colorado experience.

Bitch Slapped
By Pam Jan 24th 2008 at 4:04 pm MST
What is most offensive in this is the use of a term that has always indicated that women need a good slap every once in a while. Without being to rigid, I too have a sense of humor. But using terms that demean people and the human spirit is a dishonor to himself as well as the views he professes. Remember - BITCH stands for being in total control of hersefl - obviously he isnt....

Caldera

What bothers me most about Caldera is that he's not an idiot, as are most of the people who say the things he says. I can't listen to him for more than 2-3 minutes without putting a few slugs into my radio, it's true, because he's snarky, smug, and a world class kool-aid drinking asshole. But he's an intelligent one, and that's what's scary.

Andy, that is exactly why this is so important. The public never draws the connection between Caldara the radio clown/pundit/asshat and Caldara the politician who is pursuing ballot initiatives to help reshape Colorado in a way that is anathema to most progressives. It's up to everyone who finds this type of commentary offensive to help draw that connection. Is this really the type of person we want commanding the public voice while promoting less funding for public education, opposition to organized labor and opposition to health care reform?

Bitched slapped offensive?
By N. A. Courtney Jan 28th 2008 at 6:03 am MST
How is saying bitch slapped a hate word, I'm black and the so called "N word" does not bother me I've been called it, I have a thick skin, and I know I'm not ignorant, I don't call other black people by that the "N word", as some progressives seem to think it's alright for blacks to call each other by the "N-Word" and not for a white talk show host to say nappy head hos, I was one black guy who didn't think Don Imus should have been fired. It didn't offend me to hear what he said. If you're going to police words then police words and stop making it selective as to who says certain things. Some people will use anything to get themselves and their followers riled up.

Threatening a advertiser? It's a free market and advertisers are free to advertise wherever they choose. The people who listen to a particular radio host agree with most of that host opinions, I don't see a lot of so called progressive radio programs because they don't succeed, it's amazing the number of advertiser who advertise on so called right wing radio, it's where radio makes it's money, just like magazines and newspapers. Progressive radio programs fail because they can get the numbers that right wing host get and that translates to sales in advertising.

Why is it that if someone like Snoop Dogg says the bitch ought to be bitch slapped or any other rapper or musician, progressive talk show host, or actor on a television can say bitch slapped and not be admonished for it in the same way.

A perfect example is the show Supernatural, the one sibling on that show is always saying bitch slapped to both men and women on that show, and where is your outrage. People who follow political correctness will eventually purge themselves out of existence.

If I'm not mistaken Mr. Caldera was talking to a female caller who agreed with Mr. Caldera, and she even went on to call the Clintons monsters. Isn't monster a word used to describe a serial killer, rapist or murderer. I was more offended by Bill Clinton trying to redefine oral sex, by saying he "Never had sexual relations with that woman.", when did that act not become a sexual act, if you get it from a prostitute on the street you'll goto jail, and if I'm not mistaken, there was a baseball player on the Colorado Rockies fired for engaging in the same act. Judge everyone by their actions and words equally or don't do it at all.
