Dear Friend of Soulforce,
On July 22, 2006, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, dozens of diverse families from across the country will join Soulforce in an unprecedented justice-making event!
Beginning at 6pm actor and activist Chad Allen, and executive director of the Matthew Shepard Foundation Judy Shepard, will lead a gathering of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and their families, friends and supporters in a 2-mile march from Colorado Springs' Rampart Park to the entrance of Focus on the Family. When we arrive we'll hold a brief "vigil of light" and then celebrate the love and commitment found in our families and friends with an electrifying nighttime concert under the stars featuring Broadway Star Billy Porter.
Soulforce is calling this action:
The 1000 Watt March, Vigil, and Concert
Shedding the Powerful Light of Truth on the Anti-Gay Dishonesty of Focus on the Family
The march will help America to connect the dots between the false and defamatory rhetoric that flows from Focus on the Family and the assault on the civil liberties of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and same-gender families.
The concert will be the culmination of a five-day march for justice, as dozens of diverse families participate in a relay march 65 miles from the Colorado State Capitol in Denver to the headquarters of Focus on the Family in Colorado Springs.
During the 1000 Watt March, Vigil and Concert, families and friends from across America will bring a powerful message to Focus on the Family:
Dr. Dobson--Learn from History. End Religion-Based Discrimination Against Our Families!
As the 2006 election heats up, Colorado is just one of several states considering ballot measures that would limit the rights and protections of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and same-gender families. In a cynical ploy to get votes, the Bush administration will use the mobilizing power of Christian conservatives like James Dobson to put American families at risk in the name of "traditional family values."
This is your organization's chance to take part in the 1000 Watt March, and to show Dr. Dobson, Focus on the Family and the Bush administration what real family values are all about. Please consider lending your organization's support and resources to this important event. To endorse the event, just sign on as a supporting organization and spread the word. You can send out the PDF flyer on the Soulforce page, distribute updates to your mailing list, or post a link to the Soulforce 1000 Watt March page on your website.
