Activist Groups believe impeachment is 'more on the table than people think'

Many activists including this writer think a backlash is rising to Speaker Pelossi's "Impeachment is off the table" congressional policy.

Progressive Democrats Of America had a major presence at the California Democratic Convention and pressed for adoption of a resolution by the California Dems to investigate and Impeach Bush and Cheney.

And across the nation on April 28 the many member groups of A28 http://A28.org held 100s of Impeachment rallys.

There were five in Colorado including two on last Saturday in Denver spondored by local activist groups. The groups in Denver were Weekly Vigils To Impeach Link , Progressive Democrats of Colorado http://pdcolorado.org , Impeachment By The People Link , and Colorado 911Visibility Link

Link Other photos at Link We were glad to see MoveOn members there as well. Thanks guys.

At the MoveOn organized Veto The Veto Rally on Wednesday May 4 a great many Impeach Bush and Cheney signs were in view. The event was supported by most Colorado activist groups from the Denver area and many attended. I think there were perhaps 2-300 total there. The group occupied the entire block between Colfax and 14th on Lincoln at the Capital.

MoveOn has for some years kind of ignored the possibility of impeachment but even it is being pressured by other activist groups and by its own members to deal with impeachment.

At an A28 California Impeachment Rally many were from MoveOn. "One third of those were Move On members," said Will McRae, MoveOn coordinator for San Diego County. "For MoveOn to pretend impeachment isn't on the table is the same as Pelosi. They need to put it on their website [for a vote]. We owe it to our members." Link

At the California Democratic Convention
PDA president Tim Carpenter called passage of the impeachment resolution by California delegates "the culmination of one month of effort by PDA to put the issue of investigating, accountability and impeachment" on the table.

On Saturday, Carpenter revealed, he met with Pelosi. "I think the fact that she met with us shows she is a listener," he said, but he added, "We agreed to disagree."

Impeachment is a constitutional imperative, he believes. "If we don't begin to talk about impeachment, the next president will be allowed to torture, do wiretapping, lying, and engage in manipulation of everything in signing statements," the PDA leader predicted.

Jim Dean, head of Democracy for America and brother of Democratic National Committee chair Howard Dean, said "I think it's more on the table than people think."

The California Democratic Party held its Annual Meeting and passed a resolution

CALLING FOR FULL INVESTIGATION INTO ABUSES OF POWER
BY PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH AND RICHARD B. CHENEY

Text of CA Democratic Party Impeachment Resolution
April 30, 2007, San Diego, CA Link

REAS, George W. Bush and Richard B. Cheney have acted in a manner contrary to their trust as President and Vice President, subversive of the Constitution, to the great prejudice of the cause of law and justice, and to the manifest injury of the people of California and the United States of America, by intentionally disseminating and propagating knowingly false and fabricated "evidence" regarding the threat from Iraq in order to wage a tragic, bloody war with the loss of thousands of brave American troops and Iraqi civilians, and

WHEREAS, it is clear that since September 11, 2001, President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney have abused their powers of office by: 1) using information they knew to be false as justification for the U.S. invasion of Iraq; 2) condoning and authorizing the torture of prisoners of war; 3) authorizing wiretaps on U.S. citizens without obtaining a warrant; 4) disclosing the name of an undercover CIA operative contrary to law in order to harm her for her husband's opposition to the Iraq War; 5) having suspended and denied the historic Writ of Habeas Corpus by ordering the indefinite detention of so-called enemy combatants without charge and without access to legal counsel; and 6) overstepping Presidential authority by signing statements used to ignore or circumvent portions of over 750 Congressional statutes he brought into law; and

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the California Democratic Party supports vigorous investigation of these charges by the Congress of the United States, including the full use of Congressional subpoena power authority to completely disclose the actions of the Administration to the American people and to take necessary action to call the Administration to account with appropriate remedies and punishment, including impeachment.

Submitted by Senator Art Torres (Ret.), Chairman of the California Democratic Party; CDP Resolutions Co-Chairs; Emily Thurber; Bob Farran; Michael Barnett; Tim Carpenter, Joye Swan; Patrick Henry Demo Club; 69th AD Cmte.; The Hull-Richters; Alexandar, Mark and Natasha

(Adopted April 29, 2007)

Impeachment of at least Cheney is coming... it is just a matter of time.

Get on the train.

Impeachment is still on the table
By Rita May 4th 2007 at 10:47 am MDT
I agree with this article that we still have impeachment on the table. Was Pelosi's comment to make Bush feel more comfortable in his decisions and to allow him to continue to bully the entire world. This man thinks that he is King not President. I find it hard to even tallk about him as president (he does not deserve the title) He is not what a president was meant to be and is constantly surrounded by his "YES" men He is totally out of touch with reality, he despizes the troops and the American citizens. A bully is not allowed on the playground - how can we let one stay in the White House? Our tax dollars are funding his escapades and he has run amuck with spending. He needs to be removed now before we can't repair the damage he has caused to both our country and Iraq. He and his buddies "Big Oil" should pay for repairing Iraq. What a mess - no WMD, no connection between 911 and Saddam. He lives in a fantasy world but makes his fantasies come true with his arrogant decisions and his override vetoes! He is the "decider".
