OK, so this is a copy-cat of a great idea that kicked-off in Aurora. The Colorado Confidential story http://www.coloradoconfidential.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=3472 enticed me that this is a "too good to be true" idea that I don't want to see fade off as a one-time shot (pun intended).
Considering the current season, I am familiar with a phenomenal indoor shooting range in Loveland. With sufficient interest I am ready to organize and evening or Saturday Shooting Liberally event in Northern Colorado.
All that I need is just a handful of ProgressNow responses. Then, I'll kick this off and be ready to place announcements in the Loveland newspaper to generate more interest.
Like the original organizers in Aurora I am encouraged that this is a program to demonstrate that Liberals and Progressives do support the Second Amendment to the US Constitution; without bowing to radical NRA proliferation of cheap handguns and automatic weapons. I've got some ideas to roll into the agenda on environmental protection, water quality, safety and private property rights/respect.
This is also a rare opportunity for "Sportsmen for Progress" to have a get-together. An opportunity to whittle-away at the GOP's perceived exclusivity on gun rights is very valuable. I'll even consider inviting Northern Colorado Democratic political candidates to participate.
Heh, I guess I'm following you 'round the internets.
It was fun, I remember that part. I SORT OF remember it was at a target practicing place near Lamar. But the details are just GONE.
So, hmm, maybe I ought not to be handling guns in my decrepit mental condition. But I hope you all have fun!
The point is to recognize that Democrats, Liberals and Progressive do support the Second Amendment, do support wildlife conservation and wilderness protection, and provide a a decisive contrast to the NRA worshipping GOP WingNuts pursuing cheap handguns and Kalashnikov wearing State Representatives walking around Loveland grocery stores.
I have the two-sided blessing/curse of being very double jointed. When I was active in tae kwon do, people envied me being able to easily do splits and things. But the down side was it was easy for me to hyper-extend on techniques and strain or pinch tendons. So I think that might have been why I found the recoil thing a little painful.
With that in mind you would do well to stick with .22 rifles. Use only short or long ammo (no LR - long rifle). Pistols of all calibers produce a much more significant recoil.
For a modest expense you could have the stock shortened to be more comfortable to your arm length and achieve a good cheek-weld for your sight-picture. There are some really nice shoulder/recoil pads available that will effectively eliminate even the minor .22 recoil.

All had to use firearms in defense of their ideals against the most powerful military force in the world- Great Britain; and had to defend their property and lives as they fought for independence.
The estrangement of gun owners and liberals is not puzzling but kind of sad because of NRA's distortion of the Second Amendment and hand gun violence in America.
I haven't fired a gun in almost thirty years but I shot on shooting ranges in Denver- from .22 to .45 cal. handguns to .22 rifles. Even earlier I shot shotguns on a farm in Nebraska in my youth.
It is time for liberals to come back to using guns in a responsible manner with responsible gun laws for all.
One comment on the remark about "cheap handguns and automatic weapons" - it comes off as snide. Automatic weapons are restricted Federally and outlawed in many states. Semi-autos cover MANY handguns. As for cheap handguns, I know of several models that fall into that category. However, even Glocks can be had on the street for cheap when they are stolen. High prices simply create another barrier preventing people from being able to afford a gun, and comes off as elitist.
The Second Amendment is not about price, style, or ability of the firearm. It is about law abiding citizens having the right to own a weapon as the final line of defense for them to use in defending their rights against those who would take those rights away - be it Life or Liberty, by an individual, government, or invading force. The ultimate expression of liberty is the right and abiltity to fight for it when needed.
I very much believe the debate should not be around the weapons, but rather around education.
