Gays have always been in Miltary
By Lou Jul 8th 2008 at 7:11 am MDT
I am not Gay. When I severed during Vietnam, some of my best friends were gay. Some people did not like that they were Gay but no problems arose from the situation. Just like with Blacks in the military, of whom I also had many friends, the only real difference between them and the Whites is cultural. The only problem is intolerance.

pandering to PERVS

Well now CNN as a supposed study showing that pervs in the military isn't a bad thing...

What a load and it takes libtards to believe such inane nonsense...
You're Right - Pervs belong in Congress!

Especially the Republican Ones...I'm sure that Larry "Wide Stance" Craig is getting hot just thinking about a man in uniform!

I got a news flash for you, juandos...there's always been gays in the Military. They've served in every war this country has fought, and they've done it by hiding their preferences.

The Pervs in the Military we need to worry about are the Straight Ones who blackmail their subordinates into having sex with them, or the scumbags who rape their fellow troops.

When I was in the service in Vietnam, I got hit on a couple of times... I wasn't gay, they didn't push and I let it drop. People do weird things during the war, like hit on someone they don't know. I didn't turn them in... of course I also didn't turn in the hundreds of people who wanted me to buy or use their drugs... drug usage and alcoholism was an every day, in your face problem in war, and it impaired every user's ability to respond appropriately and skillfully in situations of war, firefight, evac, trauma... you name it. Being hit on in comparison was a MINOR annoyance ... don't ask, don't tell, just leave me alone.

"In 1993, Congress banned known homosexuals from the military, convinced their presence could undermine morale and discipline. That year, Israel took exactly the opposite approach.

All restrictions on gay and lesbian soldiers were dropped. Homosexuals in the Israel Defense Forces could join close-knit combat units or serve in sensitive intelligence posts. They were eligible for promotion to the highest ranks.

Fourteen years later, Israelis are convinced they made the right decision.

"It's a non-issue," said David Saranga, a former IDF officer and now Israel's consul for media and public affairs in New York. "There is not a problem with your sexual tendency. You can be a very good officer, a creative one, a brave one and be gay at the same time."

-Susan Martin Taylor, St. Petersburg Times, Jan. 7, 2007.

So, "juandos" provides a near-perfect example of the kind of far-right prejudice and stereotyping that I witnessed for over 20-years on Active Duty and in the National Guard. The spewing of insults and assumptions over facts is typical.

Ever since the deprived actions of "straight" drill sergeants sexually assaulting their trainees was released I've had no doubts in my mind that the true danger is in that kind of illegal and immoral behavior.

The rabid talk of making significant public policy based on fears and stereotypes has been pandered to for too long. All "juandos" does is emphasize the existence of homophobia, and the need for those afflicted with that condition to get professional help.
