Protect Western Slope watersheds and sensitive areas from oil and gas development
Right now, the Bureau of Land Management is studying the feasibility and impact of opening the top of the Roan Plateau to oil and gas development. BLM has already leased large tracts of land atop the Grand Mesa for drilling, an action that has prompted angry protests from the communities of Palisade and Grand Junction whose clean water supplies depend on runoff from the area.
Under pressure from Senator Ken Salazar, the BLM has agreed to delay similar drilling leases in San Miguel County. Senator Salazar has also expressed his opposition to drilling atop the Roan Plateau and in areas of the Grand Mesa critical to the water supply of Western Slope cities.
Fill out the form below. Support Senator Salazar's effort to protect these areas from harmful drilling and urge the BLM to take greater care in ensuring that needed development of America's domestic energy resources adequately considers both the sensitive ecology of the Rocky Mountain West as well as the health and well-being of local residents.
